My employer is a young lady from Bulgaria. Her name is Lubomila. She is very sharp and forward. I don't get to see her a lot because she is very busy and always at different business meetings all across Europe. She is the type of person who can clearly separate work and personal life. She is just like a friend when we are off work. We would usually grab some beer after work on Friday. When the "Boss Mode" is on, she suddenly becomes another person.
This internship is a little bit different than I expected. On one hand, I expected more work related to data mining but in fact I'm dealing with data visualization for the most of my time. That is good because working on data visualization gave me a new perspective to understand data science and the work itself is fun to do. I acquired a lot of new skills that I wouldn't come across if the internship is exactly same as what I expected. On the other hand, what surprised me was that all my coworkers are foreigners living in Berlin which makes the workplace very diverse and I think it's one of the best thing for a start-up company competing in a innovative industry. The working culture is really laid-back. People work hard and play harder. The working culture is probably the main reason why I chose to do my internship here. Since it's my first real job, I can't really compare it with other companies or countries. But, from my past experience of talking with my friends working back home in China, the working culture back home is somehow bureaucratic.
